What are Static Mixers?
Static mixers are a very simple way to mix two materials
together. There are no moving parts just a series of elements joined
together to cause two materials to disperse around them and blend into
one material.
Static = not moving
Mixer = to mix
something.
The process of pushing two liquids, usually adhesive, through
a static mixer is what causes the mixing to occur. The mixing "element" or
core remains stationary and the two materials fold around each element
within a mixing tube to cause blending.
Static mixers are measured by the number of elements
joined together. These elements are fastened inside a tube so material
can flow in and around the elements. A longer static mixing tube equals
more elements which equals greater mixing. There are a couple of factors
that determine how to select a static mixer such as thickness of the adhesive
(viscosity), back pressure, and amount of mixing required. |
